Most of the times during pregnancy, parents-to-be would be concerned about the wellbeing of the unborn child. Extra efforts are made to ensure both the mother and the baby’s health is taken care of.

However, during unforseen circumstances where medical attention is required, couples may be caught off guard and be laid on with financial
burden, on top of the emotional turmoilThis is where insurance for both the mother and the unborn child comes in.

I met up with a good friend of mine, who has been in the trade for over 10 years. She was kind enough to explain the plan to me.In essence, couples who have some spare cash and wish to be protected against the major pregnancy complications might be keen to explore these. With just couple hundred dollars per year, it is actually quite decent.

In a nutshell, here’s what the plan covers:

During Pregnancy (after 4.5 months)
A. Death benefit for mother: $10,000
B. Pregnancy complications benefits: $5,000
C. Hospital care benefit for mother: $200/day, max 25 days
D. Congenital illness benefit for chid: $10,000
E. Hospital care benefit for child: $200/day, max 25 days (covered till
6th year of policy)

Types of pregnancy complications covered
1. Still Birth
2. Pre-Eclampsia or Eclamsia
3. Abruptio Placentae
4. Placenta Increta/Percreta
5. Amniotic Fluid Embolism
6. Fatty live of pregnancy
7. Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation
8. Postpartum Haemorrhage requiring Hysterectomy

After the child is born, the items being covered are
1. Anal Atresia
2. Congenital Cataract
3. Congenital Deafness
4. COngenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
5. Infantile Hydrocephalus
6. Tetralogy Fallot
7. Transposition of Great Vessel
8. Truncus Arteriosis
9. Down’s Syndrome
10. Spina Bifida
11. and many more…

In all fairness, insurance is something that we should purchase and hope we never have to use it. with a small amount invested in this, I believe
it’s better to hedge against the major illness.
